Change of DateYou have possibly seen in the press that the May Day Bank Holiday in 2020 has been changed to coincide with the 75th celebrations for VE day.  Please note that the May holiday will now take place on FRIDAY 8th MAY 2020 instead of Monday 4th May.  This will be for ONE DAY ONLY.  

 

Unavoidable School Closure – Once again, we apologise for the school closure which was forced upon us on this week.  We do not take the decision to close the school lightly. As explained in letters to you, it is circumstances beyond our control.  Drainage has been an ongoing problem for many years, not only on our school site but also in the surrounding roads.  You may have noticed water bubbling out of the drains in Woolram Wygate and when this happens, unfortunately the whole system seems to back up and causes the water levels in our toilets to rise.  Anglian Water are aware of the problems we experience.  Health and safety dictates that we cannot have children on site with no toilet facilities – that would be against the law - and we are sure that you would agree with this. 

Regarding those of you who may have paid for school meals during this period, the Farm Kitchen are unable to give refunds as the food has already been bought in and started to be prepared by them before we have had the chance to let them know of our closures.  However, as no one is at fault, the school are prepared, as a goodwill gesture, to refund parents for the meals they have ordered, but not received.  The meals cannot be transferred to another day.  We do not know, at this stage whether the refund will be credited to your account with the Farm Kitchen, or whether you will receive a cash refund through school, but please rest assured that we are dealing with the matter.  We are sure you will appreciate that these things take time to organise. 

Once again, we wish to thank you for your co-operation and understanding over the last few days and also for the amount of parents who have kept in touch with us and have supported us in the decision we made to close the school.

 

Parent Pay - From September, we will no longer accept cash or cheques within school. Payment must be made online using ParentPay. In some circumstances, we may be able to accept payment via Paypoint, which enables you to make cash payments in a shop. Further information about this is available from the school office. You will still need to activate your account to use this facility. Over the last few weeks, we have been sending letters out to those of you who have not activated your account. Please make sure that you activate your account as soon as possible please. If you have already activated your account but have forgotten your login details, please go to www.parentpay.com and choose the forgotten password link.  If you need assistance setting up an account please call into the office and ask for Mrs Want, who will be happy to help you. 

 

Tests - Advance Notice – The SATs tests for the next academic year will take place as follows :-

Year 2 Puzzle Books (for children who are currently in Year 1)  - w/c 5th May 2020

Year 6 SATs (for children who are currently in Year 5) – w/c 11th May 2020

It is absolutely essential that all children are in school for these important tests.  Please do not arrange routine medical appointments for these weeks.  Thank you.

 

 

 Photographs for our website – On Wednesday 26th June our school photographers will be visiting our school to take photographs of our children ‘in action’ in the classrooms.  Photographs will then be selected and will appear on our website.  If you do not wish your child to appear in these photographs please call into the office to let us know by Friday 21st June.  Thank you.

 

Year 5 Thomas Cowley Taster DayYear 5 children are invited to a ‘Taster Day’ at The Thomas Cowley High School on Friday 28th June 2019.  The day will begin at 9.30am and end at 2.30pm.  You will be responsible for taking and picking up your child.  If you would like further information and a booking form, please call into the school office.  If you intend to take your child to this event, please speak to Mrs Mountain to let her know that your child will be absent on this day.  Of course, if your child is not attending the taster day they will be expected to be in school as normal.

 

School Uniform Ordering

Don’t forget to order your uniform for the next school year.   The deadline for ordering items to be delivered to school before the end of term 6 is 30th June 2019.  Following that, our suppliers, Brigade, are offering the option to have items delivered to your home for a fee. Standard delivery charges will apply. This facility will remain in place until 2nd September when ordering will revert back to delivery into school only.

 

PTA Summer Fair – Saturday 29th June 2019

Please make sure you book this date in your diary and come along between 11.00am and 3.00pm to join in the fun.  Our wonderful PTA spend such a lot of time organising this amazing event for us so please do all you can to support them in their fundraising efforts for the school.  ALL children benefit from money raised.  Don’t forget to hand your sold raffle tickets and money into the school office by Friday 28th June.  The ‘donation stations’ are available under the porch near the office for you to drop off any toy, book and DVD donations.

 

Non-Uniform Day

On Thursday 27th June the PTA would like to invite all children to come to school in NON-UNIFORM in exchange for a donation towards the Summer Fair –  suggestions are for a raffle prize / tombola / cake stall etc.

 

Get Creative Competition

Look out for a piece of bunting coming home with your child, together with an explanation of the competition.
