Wednesday 15th January was clear, but the year, was it 2014 or 1896?
Dressed in various fantastic Victorian costumes, the Year 4s travelled to Victorian times and to Stibbington School. The children were given the identity of someone who was actually at the school during 1896 and learnt about where they lived and what life would have been like.
The children experienced life in the Victorian classroom, with lessons being taught about spellings, maths, counting money (using pounds, shillings and pence) and even handwriting using dip ink pens. Lunch too was Victorian in style being bread, cheese and fruit with juice and cold tea to drink.
In addition, the children walked around the Victorian village to find where their olden day families lived and were buried, searching for the graves using orienteering skills.
A great experience and definitely a ‘Wow’ to begin the topic!
