Welcome to Year 4!
In the autumn term we will be exploring the Stone Age and Natural disasters. We introduced the topic with a ‘Stone Age Camp Day’, where children explored life during the time by building shelters, cave painting, hunting, weapon making, cooking, jewellery making and fossil making. We will continue the journey from the Stone Age into the Bronze and Iron Age, looking at how daily life changed with the variety of new materials available to them. We will also be looking at natural disasters and how they affect people’s lives around the world.
In the spring term we will be learning about the Vikings and their invasions. From there we move onto the Anglo-Saxons and their settlements.
Finally in the summer term, we will be exploring the Egyptians, looking in particular at the pyramids and mummification.
In maths this year we will be developing our skills in the use of the four operations and the use of formal written methods, problem solving, shape and measure, place value and data handling.
We will look at a range of text types in English with a particular focus on improving our skills in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Keep an eye on our blog for updates and photographs of the children learning!
