ACORN 17th May 2019

Week ending 17th May 2019

Staffing UpdateMrs Poucher will be starting her maternity leave from the end of Term 5.  We wish her well and look forward to hearing the news of her new baby very soon. Mrs Morgan will be teaching Opal class full time until the end of Term 6.

Late arrivals - Can we please remind you that if your child arrives late, you must bring them into school via the office.  Please do not attempt to open gates (especially in the Reception area) in order for your child to gain access.  If they are late and are not brought into school via the office, they will not be registered correctly and this could potentially be extremely dangerous if we were to have an emergency eg. a fire.

European Elections - On Thursday 23rd May two of our Year 5 classrooms will be used as a Polling Station for the European Elections.  SCHOOL WILL BE OPEN on this day – it will be a normal school day. Children in Year 5 will be accommodated elsewhere within the school.  Members of the public will be coming into the school via the car park to vote.  They will not have access to any other part of the school so there is no need for you to be concerned about the safety of the children.  At all times, the playground gates will be locked so the public cannot enter the playgrounds.  The only gate which will be unlocked to permit access will be the green gates at the bottom of the car park.  However, there will be a barrier erected just beyond the gates so children cannot get out and the public cannot get into school.  As we expect there to be more traffic on this day, please consider walking to school if you are able.  Thank you.

Year 5 Thomas Cowley Taster DayYear 5 children are invited to a ‘Taster Day’ at The Thomas Cowley High School on Friday 28th June 2019.  The day will begin at 9.30am and end at 2.30pm.  You will be responsible for taking and picking up your child.  If you would like further information, please call into the school office.  If you intend to take your child to this event, please speak to Mrs Mountain to let her know that your child will be absent on this day.  Of course, if your child is not attending the taster day they will be expected to be in school as normal.

PTA Matters

Smarties Challenge - Thank you to all those children/parents/carers who returned their Smarties tube filled with coins. We were very disappointed that a large number of children requested to have a tube of Smarties, but unfortunately did not return the tube with a donation. If you are one of these people, it is not too late to hand this into the office.  So far, a fantastic amount of £649.43 has been raised.  Please remember that ALL money raised by the PTA benefits YOUR child.

Bags 2 School CollectionDon’t forget that the Bags 2 School collection will take place on Friday 24th May. If you have a filled bag, please bring it to school by 9.00am on that day.  Thank you.

School Uniform Ordering

Don’t forget to order your uniform for the next school year.   The deadline for ordering items to be delivered to school before the end of term 6 is 30th June 2019.  Following that, our suppliers, Brigade, are offering the option to have items delivered to your home for a fee. Standard delivery charges will apply. This facility will remain in place until 2nd September when ordering will revert back to delivery into school only.

Well done to the Year 2 and Year 6 children who all completed their recent Puzzle Book and SATs tests very calmly. We hope the Year 6 children who attended the Breakfast Club enjoyed spending time with their friends.  Thank you to the PTA for providing the funding for the Breakfast Club and to all staff members who came to school early to supervise the children.

Year 1 Phonics checks will begin on 10th June 2019.  ALL year 1 children must be in school for these important tests.  Please do not make any routine medical appointments during this time.

Attendance Percentages for Term 5

If your class achieves the highest attendance for the whole of Term 5, then there will be a special non-uniform day reward.  There are two rewards, one for the Reception & KS1 classes and one for the KS2 classes.  Try to be at school every day and help your class win the reward.  Please take a look at our Attendance Policy on our website.
