ACORN 24th May 2019

Week ending 24th May 2019

Today is the last day of Term 5.  We hope you have a very happy and safe holiday.

Term 6 starts on Monday 3rd June 2019 and all children should be in school on this day.

Congratulations to Mrs Poucher who had a baby girl called Nancy on Thursday 23rd May weighing in at 7lb 7oz.

Parent Pay - From September, we will no longer accept cash or cheques within school. Payment must be made online using ParentPay. In some circumstances, we may be able to accept payment via Paypoint, which enables you to make cash payments in a shop. Further information about this is available from the school office. You will still need to activate your account to use this facility.  If you have not already activated your account, please look out for the letter coming home with your child this evening giving you the information you need.  If you have forgotten your login details, please go to and choose the forgotten password link.

If you need assistance setting up an account please call into the office and ask for Mrs Want, who will be happy to help you.

Year 1 Phonics checks will begin on 10th June 2019.  ALL year 1 children must be in school for these important tests.  Please do not make any routine medical appointments during this time.

Advance Notice – The SATs tests for the next academic year will take place as follows :-

Year 2 Puzzle Books (for children who are currently in Year 1)  - w/c 5th May 2020

Year 6 SATs (for children who are currently in Year 5) – w/c 11th May 2020

PARKING ISSUES – Please continue to park considerately when bringing and picking up your child.  We would request that you do not leave your car engine running when waiting.  May we also remind you that you should not enter the school car park when dropping off and picking up.  This includes dropping children off early for phonics/running club/sensory circuits etc. and also collecting children from after school clubs at the end of the day.  Thank you.

Late arrivals - Can we please remind you that if your child arrives late, you must bring them into school via the office.  Please do not attempt to open gates (especially in the Reception area) in order for your child to gain access.  If they are late and are not brought into school via the office, they will not be registered correctly and this could potentially be extremely dangerous if we were to have an emergency eg. a fire.

Late pick-up - Please make sure you collect your child promptly at 3.15pm. We have an increasing number of parents/carers who are late picking up their children on a regular basis -  just because they are late!  This is unacceptable. We understand emergencies and traffic problems and we appreciate your calls to keep us informed if you are experiencing this as a one-off.  If you are regularly late collecting your child, please make sure you register with Kid’s Club and book them in so you can collect your child from there.

Year 5 Thomas Cowley Taster DayYear 5 children are invited to a ‘Taster Day’ at The Thomas Cowley High School on Friday 28th June 2019.  The day will begin at 9.30am and end at 2.30pm.  You will be responsible for taking and picking up your child.  If you would like further information and a booking form, please call into the school office.  If you intend to take your child to this event, please speak to Mrs Mountain to let her know that your child will be absent on this day.  Of course, if your child is not attending the taster day they will be expected to be in school as normal.

School Uniform Ordering

Don’t forget to order your uniform for the next school year.   The deadline for ordering items to be delivered to school before the end of term 6 is 30th June 2019.  Following that, our suppliers, Brigade, are offering the option to have items delivered to your home for a fee. Standard delivery charges will apply. This facility will remain in place until 2nd September when ordering will revert back to delivery into school only.
