ACORN 5 - 11th November 2019

ADVANCE NOTICE: Our school will be CLOSED FOR ONE DAY ONLY on Thursday 12th December 2019 as our premises will be used as a Polling Station for the General Election.

Christmas Lunch - This will be held on Wednesday 11th December 2019. It is always a fun occasion.  If your child wishes to have Christmas lunch please visit The Farm Kitchen’s website in the usual way to place your order.  As always, you need to book the meal for your child – it will not just arrive!!! The deadline for ordering the Christmas meal is 3.00pm on Tuesday 3rd December. Don’t be disappointed – book today!! If your child does not wish to have the hot lunch, they can, of course, bring a packed lunch.

Christmas Fundraising - Earlier in the week, your child brought home a sample of the Christmas card they have made together with an order form.  If you wish to order any of the Christmas items available, please make sure you return your order by Tuesday 12th November at the very latest.  We are not able to accept orders after this time. Payment can be made by either cash or cheque (made payable to Spalding Primary School PTA) – we are not able to accept payment via the Parentpay system on this occasion. If paying by cash, please make sure you send the correct amount – we are not able to give change.  Please check the spelling of your child’s name and, if necessary, please make the alteration in the space provided on the order form. By purchasing these products, you will be supporting the PTA fundraising efforts for the school, which benefits all children within school.

Don’t forget to hand your photograph order in by the deadline of Thursday 21st November 2019

Children In Need

Just a reminder that on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th November we will be holding a bake sale in the school hall at 3.15pm.  We would like to invite you to donate cakes for this sale.  Please bring any donations on Thursday morning, then come along and buy the delicious cakes on Thursday and Friday evenings.  On Friday 15th November, children are invited to come to school dressed in their favourite sports outfit – (we have re-considered and decided that football kits can be worn if your child wishes) and make a donation of £1.00 (cash only please).  Please return any filled money boxes to school by Friday 15th November. Please see the letter sent you on Friday 18th October for more information.  All money raised will be donated to the fantastic Children in Need campaign.  Thank you for your generosity and continued support.

Mobile phones -  If children bring a mobile phone to school with them, these should be switched off before they enter the school gates and handed to the teacher for safe keeping during the day.  The teacher will return the phone at the end of the school day and they should then be put straight into their bag. Children should only retrieve their phone from their bag once they have left the school premises and should not be using them in the school playground.  Thank you.

Vacancies - We are currently looking for a midday meal supervisor. The role would be from 11.45am until 1.15pm Monday to Friday term time only.  If you would like further information or an application form, please call into the school office.

TTRS National Competition

As part of Maths Week England (11th-14th November 2019) we are taking part in the Times Table Rock Stars Rock Out 2019 competition. This is a national competition giving our children the opportunity to compete with schools from across the country. All children with a TTRS account (Years 2-6) are able to take part. All your child has to do is log onto the site and play lots of games! Each correct answer earns a point for your child, their class and the school. All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count but points are only awarded for games played between 7.30am and 7.30pm on Monday 11th, Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th. There are many prizes up for grabs. As class and school prizes are judged on the average number of correct answer given, we need everyone’s help to win so please encourage your child to practice their times tables daily in this week via the app or website. Information about this will be shared with the children during an assembly next week. If you have any questions, please speak to Miss Jones.  Good luck everyone.

Christmas Hoops – During the last week in November, children will have Hoop Day within their classrooms, when each child makes a festive item, they are all put together on a hoop, and then displayed in the school hall for the Christmas period.  We would like to welcome parents/carers into school to assist in the making of the hoops. This is always a fun, but hectic day.  If you would like to come along and help, please see your child’s teacher to find out the day and time the children will be doing the activity.  Thank you.

Reception and Year 6 Height and Weight Checks  - An email was sent to Parents/Carers who have children in Reception and Year 6 on 29th October 2019 regarding height and weight checks.  Please read the attachments to the email carefully.  If you are happy for your child to take part in the National Child Measurement Programme, you do not need to do anything.  However, if you DO NOT wish your child to take part, you need to opt out before 22nd November 2019.  The checks will take place within school on a date to be arranged during this school year.

Starting School in September 2020 - If you have a child who was born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016, they will be due to start school in September 2020.  You need to apply for a place in a school for them—please do not assume that because they have a brother or sister in our school, or your child goes to Wygate Foundation Nursery School that you will automatically get a place in our school—this is not the case.  Please call into the school office for a leaflet on how to apply for a place.  If you are applying for a place and have a brother or sister who currently comes to our school, please make sure you put this information in the relevant place on the application form.  This could make the difference between you obtaining a place in this school or not.  The application process opens on 14th November 2019 and closes on 15th January 2020.

Before & After School Clubs - Can we please remind parents/carers that you should NOT park in the car park when dropping off your child for a morning club or collecting your child from after school clubs.  These are extremely busy times of the day with school staff attempting to arrive for work or leave for the day.  This is for the safety of yourself and your children.  Thank you.

Home School Agreements / E-safety Agreements / Student contact detail forms – Years 1-6

There are still a few parents/carers who have not returned the Home School Agreement and E-safety Agreements.  Can you please make sure these are returned as soon as possible otherwise your child’s use of the internet within school may be restricted.

If you have not already done so, please return the contact details form which was either handed to you at Parents Evening or sent to you via your child.  It is absolutely essential that we have the correct telephone numbers etc. for you so we can reach you in an emergency.  If we do not hold the correct email address and mobile phone number, you will not receive a lot of the information we send out as this comes to you via text or email.  Thank you.

Secret Santa DayIf your child wishes to take part in this, don’t forget to pay on ParentPay and return your paperwork by the deadline of Friday 22nd November.

Year 2 Puzzle Books - w/c 4th May 2020

 Year 6 SATs– w/c 11th May 2020

It is absolutely essential that all children are in school for these important tests.  Please do not arrange routine medical appointments for these weeks.  Thank you.
