Welcome to Year 5!
In Year 5 we look towards the children taking a more active and responsible role within the school. We encourage this by providing children with opportunities to become Playground Leaders for Key Stage 2 as well as School Councillors, Eco-Warriors, JPCSO and E-Cadets; roles that the children take to with whole-hearted enthusiasm. Within the classroom, the children are encouraged to broaden their educational knowledge through independent investigative work using in-depth questioning across a wide range of topics.
In term 2 we will be looking at England after 1381. We are exploring the question ‘Why did the peasants revolt?’
Since the Black Death, poor people had become increasingly angry that they were still servants. They were demanding that all men should be free and equal, for less harsh laws, and a fairer distribution of wealth. We will be looking at how people stand up for their beliefs and successful ways we can put our opinion across. We will also be taking a look at various medieval medicines that were used – with varying success!
In French, the children will be learning to greet each other.
In PSHE, the topic is – ‘Keeping Healthy’.
In PE, the children will be continuing their work on invasion games.
There are many opportunities for the children to develop their computing skills: researching, discussing and presenting our findings on our castle topic. As well as this, children will be working on a blogging topic to improve their writing skills and sharing their experiences online.
